Stepping out from behind the Jeffrey Jerusalem moniker, Jeffrey Brodsky delivers a new album unlike anything we've heard from him. Jonah is the product of a commissioned piece for the DEEP//LEAP MICROCINEMA's Palimpsests show featuring improvisations on and reinterpretations of the music of Jonah Adels--Brodsky's close collaborator. Jonah moves between moments of breathy bliss and stuttering chaos, acoustic ambiance and digital terror. Brodsky's work on this recording is a study in hauntology--a reconfiguration of lost soundtracks, hidden melodies, and buried emotions--that emerge as a sort of New Age aesthetic for 2010. A rewarding listen for a rainy day.
